Dr Boris Frlec, BSc in Chemistry

Boris Frlec was born on 10 February 1936. After attending secondary school in Ljubljana he enrolled at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, University of Ljubljana, where he graduated in 1959 and obtained his DSc degree in chemistry in 1965. From 1959 to 1975 he was employed by the Jožef Stefan Institute as researcher and from 1974 as assistant director. A year later he was made director of the Institute. In 1984 he was appointed vice-president of the Executive Council of the Republic of Slovenia for social activities. In 1989 he was appointed Ambassador of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to Germany. He has been employed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the RS since 1991. In 1992 he was appointed Slovene Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. He has been the Minister of Foreign Affairs since 1997. After 1968 he was additionally employed by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, University of Ljubljana, as assistant professor for inorganic chemistry; in 1972 he became associate professor and in 1976 full professor. In the meantime he went to the USA and United Kingdom for professional training. He published over 50 articles about inorganic chemistry in international journals. He is fluent in English and German..
