Slovene Philharmonic building

In the 19th century, this magnificent building, situated in an extremely favourable position in the centre of the city by the Ljubljanica river, housed the Ljubljana Provincial Theatre. In the 1881-82 season, Gustav Mahler was the theatre's conductor. In 1887 the building was burned down, and was rebuilt in 1891. Yet the building acquired its current appearance only after restoration work following the catastrophic Ljubljana earthquake of 1895.
