The two US tours by the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra

In October and November of 1977 the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra went on its first tour of the USA, taking in twenty-five locations over one month. The tour was concluded with a sell-out performance in New York's Carnegie Hall. Conductors Anton Nanut and Anton Kolar, along with soloists Dubravka Tomšič and Igor Škerjanec, presented two popular programs to large audiences.

The next tour, in the fall of 1980, was even longer, and like the first successful trip was also organized by Columbia Artists Management. Their itinerary took them through 35 locations, from the East Coat to the West Coast (including Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Sacramento, Las Vegas and Long Beach), concluding once again in Carnegie Hall. The program, conducted by Anton Nanut and Uroš Lajovic, and featuring a number of soloists, focused on presenting the works of romantic, especially Slavic, composers, to their audience of more than 70,000 music-lovers.
