GLOSSARY OF SLOVENE - AMERICAN RELATIONS

H

Ernest Hemingway spent some time in Slovenia. The old adventurer was a living witness to the folly of the Soča (Isonzo) Front (1915-17), and as we all know he left behind a book "Farewell to Arms", describing the decisive struggle there. Among the many places he lived was a hotel in Kobarid.

HEMINGWAY, ERNEST (1898-1961)
He described the decisive battle in WW I during which combined Austro-Hungarian (including Slovenes) and German forces decisively defeated the Italian army and pushed it far back into the Friulian lowlands to the Piave river where fighting continued for a considerable time. Hemingway described the fighting on the Soča (Isonzo) Front in his famous novel Farewell to Arms.
