Frank Lausche (1895-1990) was the first Slovenian to reach political heights in American life. Two term mayor of Cleveland, five time governor of the State of Ohio, and United States senator for two 6-year terms. He was inducted into the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in Columbus, October 12, 1978

LAUSCHE, FRANK - (1895 - 1990)
Lausche's charisma has been his Slovenian sincerity, integrity, humility, and honesty in private and public life. It helped to make him a great and outstanding statesman, a public official, locally, statewide, and nationally, a great patriot. To the toiling, laboring newcomers from Slovenia, he represented their ideal of success and happier times in this great country in the world. They, the Slovenian pioneers, helped to make it so. His political achievements were brilliant almost immediately. They began with his appointment as judge of the Municipal Court, then election to the Court of Common Pleas, two term mayor of Cleveland, five time governor of the State of Ohio, and United States senator for two 6-year terms. He was inducted into the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame in Columbus, October 12, 1978. He was the first Slovenian to reach political heights in American life. He was the first Catholic to become governor of Ohio. Senator Frank J. Lausche has quaffed a full measure of life in his 90 years. One of his earthly rewards is - being remembered as first in the hearts of his Slovenian countrymen.
