In Atlanta ©tukelj was a guest of the International Olympic Committee and its president, Juan Antonio Samaranch, who prepared a great surprise for him. One of the most distinguished guests at the opening ceremony in the company of a select group of legendary but much younger stars of world sport and before a global television audience and a packed Olympic stadium, Leon ©tukelj hopped nimbly and youthfully onto the main stage in the middle of the stadium to rapturous applause. It was at that moment that he became an international personality, a star almost one hundred years old and one of the main heroes of the multivisual spectacular at the opening ceremony of the Summer Games in Atlanta.

This added yet another chapter to the unique career of Leon ©tukelj. But he has remained modest as ever and unchanged by this event. The most important thing for him about all of this though has been that as much as possible is heard about Slovenia, his and our young country.
